Who This Is For
Tarpon Springs has an older population than the county, with a median age of 55.4. About 13.0% of residents are 75 or older, and 19.9% of residents 65 and up report difficulty walking or climbing stairs[1]. Some of them prefer a bath to a shower, and a walk-in tub lets them keep bathing without stepping over a tub wall.
It is also worth considering if a parent lives with you and needs a safe way to bathe. In that case, we start by choosing the right bathroom, ideally one near their bedroom and on the main floor, before choosing the tub.
Fitting One In
Most walk-in tubs fit a standard five-foot alcove. We measure the room and doorway, check the floor, confirm hot water capacity, and plan any electrical circuit needed for models with jets or heated surfaces.
The waiting is the part people underestimate. The bather sits inside while the tub fills and again while it drains, since the door cannot open until the water is out. Models with fast drains and heated seats make that more comfortable. Ask us about drain times when comparing models; they vary more than most people expect. If that wait sounds like a problem, a walk-in shower with a bench may suit better, and we will quote both.
Permits come from Tarpon Springs Building Development[2]. In a flood zone, the cost counts toward the city's 50% review[3].
